The challenge

Leading up to Fall 2025, Amarillo College identified a critical gap in enrollment conversions that posed a risk to overall student retention. The institution recognized two distinct populations that were proving difficult to reach:

  • Stopped-out students who had disengaged in the past 24 months
  • Continuing students who were at risk of missing key registration and advising deadlines.

The college needed a solution that could effectively re-engage both groups, encouraging students to reconnect with advisors, resolve holds, and complete all required steps to return or continue their education while communicating essential information about financial resources and support available to them.

The solution

Motimatic partnered with Amarillo College to design a multiphase strategy that delivered personalized, motivational content to students across the social platforms they use every day. The approach focused on removing barriers to re-enrollment and supporting persistence.

Keys to success included:

  • Driving action at every step: Campaigns were designed to prompt students to reapply, meet with advisors, clear holds, and finalize financial aid—all actions essential to returning or continuing their studies.
  • Behavior-based messaging: Motimatic’s behavioral science framework ensured that students saw the right message at the right time—from encouragement to re-engage to reminders about key deadlines.
  • Meeting students where they are: Through targeted delivery across major social media platforms, Amarillo College reached thousands of students with relevant, action-oriented content that kept their academic goals top of mind.

The results

Amarillo College’s data-driven approach paid off quickly, resulting in measurable engagement and enrollment impact:

  • Continuing students who met with an advisor: 121
  • Continuing students who registered for classes: 149
  • Stopped-out students who re-applied: 66
  • Stopped-out students who met with an advisor: 69
  • Stopped-out students who registered for classes: 62
  • Total social engagements: 18,200+

The college achieved its break-even point at just the 43rd enrollment, demonstrating a strong return on investment and validating the effectiveness of the strategy.

In their words

Lagging fall enrollment was a major concern, but Motimatic delivered the immediate impact we needed. In just days, we launched a highly targeted social media campaign designed to re-engage former students. The entire process was seamless, fast, and remarkably effective. We are absolutely delighted with the results of this latest, high-ROI engagement.
